There are no tricks or magic potions

It's funny thing it is.
Lose a bit of weight and people notice.

Lose a lot and they want to know what you did.

The reactions to my answer are very very similar though.
ME: I ate well, counted calories, learnt to run, stopped making excuses and worked my behind off in the gym (literally)
THEM: But what ELSE did you do?
Followed up by a question about shakes, diet pills, surgery - or lately that Dukan diet that seems to be the craze right now

So here it is.
I did not do a single shake.
I did not take a single pill to aid weight loss
I certainly did not have surgery
I did not cut out any food group
I did not go all protein or skip carbs

I DID cut out alcohol - but that was my choice (I'd rather eat than drink!)

I DO go to a gym and pay a PT but I lost my first 7kg with no gym and pretty much lost most of my weight without a pt. The PT is to challenge me and keep me motivated. And fun. You do not need to pay a PT to make this journey.

And I sometimes let other things slip. My house is no where near perfect. But as a couple we have chosen the payoff of my health over a perfect home.

Yep.

I got all the tools I needed to lose weight through Michelle Bridges and 12wbt.com

But it was hard work that did it.

There are no secrets. No shortcuts

But you know the awesome part of that?

It means that YOU can do it to! The secret to weight loss is there ARE no secrets. And it's accessible to all.

You just actually have to follow through.

  1. Isn't it funny how people want to know what you did to lose the weight then go 'oh..' - or start trying to guess/suggest stupid diets, ("everyone says you must be just eating lettuce") etc etc. Or say that they want to lose weight too but don't want to make any changes ("Oh, but I don't want to give up my bikkies") or to actually work up a sweat.

  2. Great post Kath.

My daughter says she doesn't know why she cant lose weight. I do though, after seeing what she puts in her mouth lol. I have tried to explain to her but no, sadly my advice falls on deaf ears...hopefully one day the penny will drop :)

I have been following your journey from the beginning and you keep me inspired. I have 5kg to go and it is hard going, but I will get there. Just got to remember to keep moving and watching what I eat :) My exercise is just walking/running for now although I am going to start some fitness classes next year...

    Keep on inspiring!

  3. Excellent post Kath - at the end of the day, it's all up to us!
However, I do think the problem many of us face is self doubt - we don't believe we have the power! I still do this from time to time, but getting much better.
    :)

  4. It's funny you say this, I recently wrote a blog post to knowing 'the secret' too, because I had people asking "What's your secret to losing all that weight" ... it's amazing how ingrained into our minds we have it, that to work hard is such a laughable thing.
Congrats on all your efforts :-D

  5. Hi Kath, love this post. :) it never changes. People are always looking for the magic bullet, the shortcut, the secret... The thing that gets me is the disappointment on their faces when they hear the truth.

Effort brings reward - why is that so hard to understand?
